Global Trajectories, Local Gaps: A Bibliometric Analysis of STEM Education Research
Keywords:
Bibliometrics, STEM Education, STEM Research, Scopus Database, PhilippinesAbstract
This bibliometric analysis systematically maps the intellectual and social structures of STEM Education research between 2015 and 2024. An initial retrieval of 2,919 documents from the Scopus database was systematically screened according to PRISMA guidelines, yielding a Final Inclusion Set of 300 highly relevant records. Using the bibliometrix R-package, the study identified exponential growth (Annual Growth Rate: 17.11%), a thematic convergence between technological and socio-critical foci, and persistent geographical concentration. Findings reveal that research output is largely dominated by the United States and Western nations, with limited international collaboration (13.84%). A sub-analysis showed the Philippines contributed approximately 2.67% (8 documents) to the Final Inclusion Set. Its output emphasizes curriculum implementation and workforce alignment, unlike the global focus on equity and computational thinking. This study highlights both the maturing structure of STEM Education research and the need for inclusive, context-sensitive international collaborations
