The Effect of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) on School Leavers in Adamawa State, Nigeria

Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is understood to include education, training and
skills development related to a wide range of occupational fields, production and livelihoods. It is in this
context that this study seeks to find out the effect of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)
on school leavers in Adamawa State, Nigeria: 109 small-scale informal sector technical employees,
graduates of technical, and vocational schools in Adamawa State were used as the population of the
study. The study found out that the recession in the economy, explosion in the population and poor state
of the education sector could not allow graduates of technical and vocational schools to be self-employed.
Highlight of the recommendations is that, technical and vocational schools should re-structures their
training to market demand by making strenuous effort to employment opportunities and improving their
chances of becoming self-employed.
